It is with deep sadness that we remember the beloved Australian cartoonist and artist, Michael Leunig, whose whimsical yet profound illustrations have touched the hearts of many. His work—marked by its gentle wit, sharp social commentary, and unique sense of humanity—has become an iconic part of Australian culture.

Being as free as possible from the madness of the modern world is one of Leunig’s mysterious, personal projects. Released by The Age and the Herald each year, his iconic calendar invites you into the whimsy with a new cartoon for each month of 2025.

Michael Leunig – cartoonist, writer, painter, philosopher and poet – is an undisputed national treasure. He gets to the heart of things, and indeed to the heart itself, where life’s troubles and joys can best be understood and dealt with.
